An under – 8s team from Clubmoor reached the grand final of a national tournament held at St George’s Park, the FA’s national home.
Teams from throughout England and Scotland – including several from Premiership clubs academies – took part in the tournament to be crowned champions in their age groups.
The Farmers Junior team competed against teams from Chelsea, West Ham, Crystal Palace ,Manchester and Scotland but despite taking on academy sides they reached the final.
They gave a great account of themselves but went down 2-0 to a very good team from the Hull academy.
Manager Eddie Kane said: “The boys gave their all , showing 110% commitment and passion and reached the final beating some quality teams. – the best in their age group in the country. They could have been the winners as they hit the woodwork and missed an early chance but they deserve every credit for getting to the final.
“It was a fantastic day at St George’s Park for the boys and their parents.”
Clubmoor councillors supported their visit through the Mayoral Neighbourhood Fund.
Councillor Irene Rainey said: “We were pleased to help – the team have been great young ambassadors for Clubmoor and the city as a whole and it was a fantastic achievement to do so well in this tournament.”
