A Great New Store for Liverpool Families

Bulky Bob’s parent charity is opening a high street weekly payment store for new household goods in Liverpool – Our House.

Our House is a completely new type of high street store, a weekly payment store offering a great range of new household furniture, appliances and electrical items, with all the brands customers want and at the lowest cost – all run by a social enterprise.

It has been created by FRC Group, a not-for-profit business, and follows the opening of two stores in Oldham and Burnley.

Donald Stark, Our House Managing Director, said: “This is our first Our House Pod, a mini Our House store based in Bulky Bob’s Furniture World. We will have some items on display with the full catalogue to hand so people can pick anything from our full range of new household items.”

The weekly prices at Our House are up to 50% cheaper than other high street Rent to Own stores, offering huge savings and with no late fees. There are also no hidden charges or unnecessary extra costs – no expensive service package and insurance is truly optional.

Bulky Bob’s runs the weekly bulky household waste collection service in partnership with Liverpool City Council, reusing and recycling over 60% of everything collected, a lot of that through Bulky Bob’s Furniture World on London Road.

Bulky Bob’s is part of FRC Group, a charity aimed at helping people on low incomes to access good quality furniture. Our House has been created because not everyone wants preloved items but those on low incomes are often excluded from many high street stores because they do not have the cash for pay for big ticket items up front. They can also have a poor or non-existent credit history so cannot borrow from traditional lenders or be accepted for high street store credit.

The Our House store in Oldham is backed by Oldham Council, and the Burnley store by social housing provider Calico Homes, because they understand that a growing number of people are turning to expensive sources of credit, such as payday loan operations, high street rent to own stores, and even loan sharks, in order to buy necessities such as household goods.

Many people do not have bank accounts and have a poor credit history, which reduces their options and puts them at greater risk of financial exploitation. Our House offers a fair credit solution, giving access to reasonably priced credit, keeping the total cost realistic and affordable.

Shaun Doran, CEO of FRC Group, explained: “At Our House we want our customers to spend less money and we are here to help them to save as much as we can.

“Our House has no expensive service package that you must take out and insurance really is optional. Because we are a social business with no shareholders, and also a charity, our top aim is to offer the best value for our customers, not to make profits for ourselves, so we have kept our prices as low as we can and will continue to work hard to drive them down even further.”

The new Our House store is based in Bulky Bob’s Furniture World, 129-139 London Road, Liverpool, L3 8JA, and it is open Monday to Friday, 1pm to 4.30pm. To find out more, visit www.ourhouseshop.co.uk
