Additional Government funding for Liverpool welcomed

Liverpool City Council has welcomed news that three additional areas of the city are to benefit to the tune of tens of millions of pounds over the next decade from the Government’s new ‘Pride in Place’ initiative.

Parts of Everton, Norris Green and the area around Newsham Park will each get £2 million per year for the next 10 years for projects which could include revitalising the high street, creating new spaces for young people or taking control of derelict buildings. It is in addition to Government funding already announced for Speke under the ‘trailblazer’ initiative.

Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, said: “I’m really pleased that the government recognised there’s some real opportunities here in Liverpool.

“This is really good news for some of the most deprived communities in the city and in the country, and it’s the type of investment we’ve not seen in this city from national governments for over 15 years.

“I am really looking forward to working with communities and delivering real regeneration and real change, which will also improve the local environment.”
