Surprise afternoon tea was waiting for local lady, Dot Jones, at the Town Hall this week (Monday 8 April) as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

Dot, who lives in Tuebrook, had been told that she was being taken for a meal in the city centre, but in fact guests, including the Lord Mayor, were waiting at the Town Hall to surprise her.

Lord Mayor, Councillor Sharon Sullivan said: “This is a really lovely surprise for Dot and I hope she has a very enjoyable and memorable afternoon.

“As someone who is still active and takes part in community events, Dot is an inspiration to us all, and proves that age really is just a number.

“I wish her a very happy 100th birthday and hope she celebrates many more”.Dot, who lives in Tuebrook, is still very active in the community, playing piano at her local church most recently for a wedding.

Her celebratory afternoon tea was organised by local councillor Hazel Williams.

She was born in Liverpool and has lived here all her life apart from when she served was posted to Wiltshire for two years when she served in the woman’s RAF during the Second World War.
