Albert Dock Rum Festival

Albert Dock Liverpool has announced exciting plans for its inaugural two-day Albert Dock Rum Festival which takes place on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8.

Celebrating that most popular of seafarers’ tipple, the Albert Dock Rum Festival will see the Dock’s bars and restaurants showcasing their wide rum selections, as well as foodie flavours of the Caribbean and a live performance from international arts organisation, Brouhaha International, who will launch the festival at 3pm on the Saturday, including drummers from Batala Liverpool, dancing and giant puppets.

Leading the jollity will be The Smugglers Cove, who will be holding a series of rum tastings during this special celebration. Relax in the grand surroundings of this dockside tavern, as its rum specialists talk you through eight sample rums from its vast collection, while an eccentric live Caribbean steel drum band and food specials from the tropics further excite your senses.

Elsewhere, there will be rum-based cocktails available at Circo, Gusto, What’s Cooking and Revolution, tastings of Pusser’s Spiced Rum at Nauticalia, while Costa Coffee will be catering for the teetotallers with its refreshing Caribbean-themed coolers. La Crepe Rit on The Colonnades will also be serving up rum-flavoured flambés. How does banana and chocolate or chocolate and almond grab you?! Expect these and lots of other treasures to be found during the two-day fiesta.

Jeremy Roberts, chairman of the Albert Dock Tenants Business Association, said:

“The idea of the Albert Dock Rum Festival came about because we wanted to bring something exciting and a little bit exotic to the waterfront during the quieter, winter months. It’s also about showcasing our eclectic restaurant and bar offer, which is second to none, while playing with the nautical themes which are embedded in Albert Dock’s heritage. The Albert Dock Rum Festival is a nod to the days when Liverpool was the gateway to the world, when imported rum enriched the city’s fortunes, shaping it into the city we know and love today.”
