Stories are set to come to life across seven locations in Liverpool on Monday 10th August in a city-wide celebration of reading as part of the national Read On. Get On. campaign.
Families and their little ones are invited to enjoy free stories read aloud at venues and green spaces in a range of communities across the city. The storytelling will be aimed at Under 5’s with the whole family invited to come and enjoy the sessions together.
At the Anytime is Storytime events, storytellers from City of Readers and Beanstalk will be offering both group and one-to-one reading sessions, encouraging families to bring along a blanket, get comfy and relax with some quality reading time.
Free books will also be given out, to inspire families to continue their storytelling adventure together at home.
Mary Hind-Portley, Deputy Director, Liverpool City of Readers says “We’re so excited to collaborate with Beanstalk as part of this national Read On. Get On. event. It’s fantastic to see so many organisations coming together to give free access to reading and stories to families across the city; not only the organisations delivering the sessions but each of the host venues also giving their space to the day too. This really highlights all the hard work we’re doing to put Liverpool on the map as a key reading city.”
The Storytime events will be taking place from 12 – 3pm. Group storytelling sessions will take place at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm with ongoing family storytelling sessions throughout the day.
The venues hosting Storytime sessions are:
- Chavasse Park, Liverpool One
- The Dazzle Ferry
- The Isla Gladstone Conservatory, Stanley Park
- Croxteth Hall
- L15 Community Gardens
There will also be activities taking place at Liverpool Central Station and Liverpool Central Library throughout the day as part of the Anytime is Storytime celebration.
The Reader Organisation will also be hosting a special version of their weekly Tiny Reads session from 10am – 11.00am at Calderstones Mansion House in Calderstones Park. This will be an hour of picture books, crafts, rhymes and songs to entertain the little ones and start them on their reading journey.
