The world No1 ranked female athlete Gwen Jorgensen will take part in Tri Liverpool.
Gwen Jorgensen, the current leader of the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Series, has today confirmed that she will be competing at Tri Liverpool, host of the British Triathlon Championships, on the 10th August.
The event, which is organised by British Triathlon in partnership with Liverpool City Council, will attract a stellar elite field, with last year’s winner Brendan Sexton and current U23 Triathlon European Champion, Gordon Benson all lining up on the start line in the women’s and men’s races respectively.
Gwen, who is currently the world’s top ranked female triathlete, has expressed her excitement at competing at Tri Liverpool this year, stating: “I’ve heard that it’s a beautiful city and that the event has a really fast and exciting course. It comes at a great time in my training cycle and I’m really looking forward to racing hard and taking the momentum into the ITU World Triathlon Series race in Edmonton later on in August.”
Assistant Mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “We’re delighted that an athlete of Gwen Jorgensen’s profile has chosen to race at Tri Liverpool. Liverpool is a city with a growing reputation for staging major international events and I am sure that Gwen’s participation will create real excitement in the city.”
Based in the heart of the Liverpool Docks, Tri Liverpool is arguably the most spectacular city-based triathlon in the UK. On August 10th, over 2,000 triathletes will swim in the Wapping Docks, bike past the iconic Liver Buildings and run along the Albert Docks before collecting their medal outside the impressive Echo Arena. There are a limited amount of Sprint, Olympic and Team Relay entries still available, with organisers urging people to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
