In reaction to the death of 12-year-old Ava White, who was killed yesterday evening in Liverpool city centre, the head teacher of her high school has issued the following statement.
Peter Duffy, Head Teacher of Notre Dame Catholic College, said: “Ava was a much loved, valued and unique member of the Notre Dame family. She was an incredibly popular girl with a fantastic group of friends.
“Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to Ava’s family and friends and all those affected by this utterly tragic event.
“My staff are working with students to provide all the support they need at this traumatic time.”
Ava was in Year 8 at Notre Dame and had previously attended The Trinity Catholic Primary school.
Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation into Ava’s death and a post mortem will be carried out to ascertain the cause of her death. Four males have been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

A cordon is currently in place around Church Street and Hanover Street with diversions in place for traffic and pedestrians.
