Award winning dance company bring world premiere to Liverpool
Award-winning Liverpool arts organisation Hope Street Ltd will bring the multi-award winning Vero Cendoya Dance Company to Liverpool, presenting the UK premier of their exceptional dance theatre performance THE MATCH.
Football takes centre stage in this remarkable contemporary dance piece, where 5 professional dancers will perform with 5 actual footballers and even a referee. But this is no ordinary football match. In fact, it might turn out to be much more than just a game of two halves, where the performers make their own rulesâ¦
The performance will be held at the FireFit Hub, a state of the art, world-class facility for young people in the heart of Toxteth, where the Vero Cendoya Dance company will perform in their purpose built sport centre. Performance will take place on Sunday 22 October, 5:30pm.
THE MATCH is inspired by the film “The Referee”, directed by Paolo Zucca, and has toured to sell out audiences all over Europe and in South America. This production has been awarded the PRIZE TO BEST PERFORMANCE OF FIRA DE TARREGA FESTIVAL 2015, and is the winner of the CRITICS AWARDS 2015 for the best Art Street Performance. It was also nominated for the *MAX Awards in three categories: Best Cast, Best Show Revelation, and Best Authorship Revelation.
*NB: The MAX awards are the most prestigious theatre awards in Spain.
Montserrat Gili, On the Verge festival producer said ‘We are very excited to bring such a high quality Spanish company to Liverpool for the first time. This will be a very different kind of dance performance, mixing real dancers with real footballers. And since football has always been intrinsically linked to the spirit of Liverpool – what better city to host the UK premiere of THE MATCH?‘
