The BT Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & ½ Marathon is calling all local bands to apply for the opportunity to perform along the 26.2 or 13.1-mile course on race day, Sunday 25th May 2014. Applications with samples of music, a band bio and a publicity photo should be submitted to online at by 31st March 2014.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool partnered with Yaw Owusu, Curator of the Liverpool International Music Festival to locate the best, high-energy local music from all genres. More than 20 bands will perform along the course to musically motivate participants at every mile of the race.
“Not only do we show off some of Liverpool’s scenic hot spots along the course, but the sounds of live, local music also helps highlight the city’s rich and diverse musical culture,” said Yaw. “People around the globe know and love the musical energy that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series rolls out, but it’s the local flavour of the tunes that really gets people going.”
Yaw along with Race Director, Rob Griffiths listens to each musical submission, reviews the band’s history, and determines what bands could motivate the runners. To accompany the live music, enthusiastic cheerleaders, themed water stations and cheering spectators will also help encourage participants along the way.
“As we search for local bands to perform on the course, we strive to collect a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Most importantly, we’re looking for high energy performances that will keep the runners motivated and entertained,” added Rob. “We know Liverpool has a talented music scene and we look forward to showcasing that to thousands of runners from around the world.”
In addition to live bands at every mile, there will be a headliner stage at the finish line concert following the 13.1 and 26.2-mile block party through the streets of Liverpool. The headline acts will be announced in the coming weeks – with a stellar line up being guaranteed. The marathon and half marathon courses will start and finish at Liverpool’s waterfront, with scenic views of historic landmarks, rich architecture, spectacular churches, and numerous cultural attractions along the way.
