Beach opens at the park

The seaside has come to Calderstones Park this summer

An urban beach has opened next to the play area the park and will run throughout the summer holidays.

The free attraction is made up of a 35 foot by 35 foot beach, with 10 tonnes of sand , surrounded by decking and a picket fence. There are also deck chairs and buckets and spades available.

Some paid-for children’s’ rides and refreshments will add to the seaside scene.

it will be open from 10.30am to 6pm each day throughout the holidays until 3 September.

The beach was opened by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Tony Concepcion. He said: “I was very pleased to open the beach in the park. It is a really imaginative idea for the summer holidays and judging by the number of young – and not so young  – people who were there on its first day it’s going to be a great success. I’m sure the children will have as much fun at it as I did!”
