The response to the Ukraine crisis from the people of Liverpool has been characteristically warm-hearted. Cabinet member for children’s social care, Cllr Frazer Lake, reflects on the caring spirit of people in Liverpool and our urgent need for more foster carers.
It’s been so heart-warming to see our city’s response to the Ukraine crisis, with many people considering opening their homes to fleeing families.
It reminds me of the true spirit of people in Liverpool – warm, generous and willing to reach out to help those in need.
In a similar vein, we urgently need a wide range of foster carers for a wide range of children.
Sadly, the number of looked after children in our care has increased substantially (by 42% since 2016) and currently 8% of the 1,595 looked after children in Liverpool are unaccompanied minors.
If becoming a Liverpool City Council foster carer is something you’d like to consider, we will support you every step of the way.
Our fostering service is not for profit, and our priority is the welfare of our children and young people.
You’ll get a dedicated fostering social worker and family support worker, access to training, competitive skills and children’s allowance payments, council tax exemption and free Lifestyles membership for the whole household.
If you could open your heart and home to a child, whether they are escaping a war, or they’re closer to home, we would love to hear from you.
