Liverpool is to receive an additional £300,000 to help new residents learn and improve their English.
The funding for ESOL courses (English of Speakers of Other Languages) will be used to work with more than 300 learners.
It is in addition to £1 million of existing funding dedicated to English, maths and ESOL courses which has supported more than 2,000 people.
Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet member for employment, enterprise and skills, said: “This is welcome news for the city. It’s important that new residents are given the opportunity to learn and improve their English. This empowers people to move into and progress in the labour market, which we all benefit from.”
The additional funding has come from the Skills funding Agency, (SFA) and the work will take place in partnership with Job Centre Plus.
