Four brothers who have packed a punch in the boxing world will be honoured with a special civic reception on Tuesday (17 September).
Paul, Stephen, Liam and Callum Smith from Kirkdale were formerly prominent amateurs, and were the first group of siblings to all win Amateur Boxing Association titles.
Now all four are professional and Paul is the current British Super Middleweight title holder and Stephen is the British Super Featherweight champion.
Liam is the current Commonwealth Light Middleweight Champion and is set to contest a British title fight at Liverpool Olympia on 21 September – if he wins it will be unique sporting achievement to have three siblings consecutively hold British Champion titles.
Callum was a silver medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, and has won all seven of his professional fights.
The brothers will meet with Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Gary Millar, at 2.15pm on Tuesday 17 September. The Lord Mayor will present them with scrolls acknowledging their boxing success.
The Lord Mayor said: “These brothers have had a fantastic impact on boxing and deserve recognition for their dedication and commitment.
“It’s also the perfect opportunity to wish Liam luck for his big bout on the 21st – it really would be incredible to have three brothers hold a British title and is something this city should be very proud of.
“They have clearly encouraged and supported each other over the years, and I’m sure their amazing sporting credentials will inspire the next generation to get active and strive to be the best they can in whatever sport they take up.”
