Bulky Bob’s has been nominated for a prestigious national award in the eleventh annual Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, organised by Let’s Recycle Magazine.
The nomination is for Bulky Bob’s Crisis Furniture Scheme, in the category for Best Community Recycling Initiative, sponsored by DHL Envirosolutions.
Bulky Bob’s works in partnership with Liverpool City Council to deliver the bulky household waste collection service and are continually working with them to find extra ways to make a difference to the lives of those who most need help.
The judges were looking for the commitment shown by the social enterprise or community group and the achievements made – Bulky Bob’s scheme has helped 271 local families since the start of 2014 alone, and given away over 740 items of preloved furniture.
Shaun Doran, Chief Executive of Bulky Bob’s parent company, FRC Group, said: “We are very proud of the success of our Crisis Furniture Scheme, but more importantly we are delighted that we have been able to help so many families in need.
“We work closely with Liverpool City Council on a variety of projects and events and with other partners like the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority. We look forward to continuing to help families in crisis to get back on their feet and to devising new projects with all of our partners.”
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Councillor Steve Munby, said: “At a time when so many people in the city face desperate financial problems, the help Bulky Bobs provides for families in need has been vital.”
The winners are being announced on May 1st.
Bulky Bob’s are also shortlisted for two local awards in the Echo Environmental Awards, in the categories of Environmental Business of the Year and the Waste Prevention Award. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Isla Gladstone Conservatory, Stanley Park on 15 May.
