Celebrating our links with Wales through our Citizen of Honour Rev D Ben Rees

The Reverend Doctor Professor D Ben Rees be admitted to the Roll of Citizen of Honour in recognition of his enormous contribution to the City of Liverpool and its Welsh community since 1968. Not only leading his beloved Bethel Church but supporting our other Welsh Churches of every denomination.

He is known in the city as not only a great community leader, prolific author and for his ambassadorial work but as the founder of the Liverpool Welsh newspaper ‘Yr Angor’.

Lord Mayor, Cllr Christine Banks, said: “I know his community is very proud of his contribution and leadership.”

“There has always been a strong affinity between Wales and Liverpool and those strong links remain today.”

“Liverpool’s Welsh community is embedded in our rich cultural history through working on the docks, commerce and industry. To be able to celebrate our shared history in this way is very special for us.”

“Reverend Ben Rees is a true son of both Wales and Liverpool and a fantastic ambassador for both.”

The Reverend Doctor Professor D Ben Rees said; “To be acknowledged by the city of love for doing work for the country I love is overwhelming.

“I’m so incredibly proud to have been able to promote and support the welsh community in Liverpool. To be recognised in this way is truly humbling.”
