Christmas cheer for homeless

Homeless people have been given a helping hand at Christmas, thanks to the generosity of people in north Liverpool.

Monthly cabaret afternoons are held at Walton Social Club with local entertainers – and money raised by raffles and donations at the shows is being given to the Whitechapel Centre, the centre for homeless.

A cheque for £500 has been raised and was be presented by Councillor Ann O’Byrne, cabinet member for housing. A further donation will be made to a foodbank.

County ward Councillor Gerard Woodhouse, said; “All the cabaret afternoons are locally produced and very well supported.

“They provide great entertainment for local people but they have also raised money for this very worthwhile cause.

“It is the local community supporting those who are not as fortunate as themselves at Christmas.”

David Carter, Whitechapel Centre’s chief executive, said; “This donation will help make it a better Christmas for some homeless people than they could have expected and it is very much appreciated.”
