Andrew Lancel and Jonathon Morris in Sleeping Beauty

Christmas family festival

Families are set for a magical festive treat this December when the Liverpool Waterfront is transformed into a captivating Christmas spectacular!

Running for over 3 weeks from Friday 14 December – alongside the pantomime Sleeping Beauty – the Liverpool Christmas Family Festival will host a wealth of family entertainment on the City’s Waterfront like never seen before.

Situated on the Kings Dock site, adjacent to the BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, the Liverpool Christmas Family Festival will transform the area into a space full of sparkling decorations and Christmas delights all conveniently located on one site. And the best news of all…visitors to the pantomime will receive free entrance to the Festival giving adding great value!

Traditional children’s fun fair rides, festive entertainers, Santa’s Grotto plus a host of Christmas Market stalls and a fully-licensed restaurant are just some of the fantastic attractions to be enjoyed. The Festival will create an enchanting and feel-good atmosphere with carol singers, traditional organ music and an abundance of twinkling lights to dazzle kids and families alike.

And it’s not just the Family Festival that audiences can look forward to, as pantomime favourite Sleeping Beauty will run alongside the Festival giving visitors a fantastic entertainment experience and amazing value for money!

Produced by renowned show creator David Lee, Sleeping Beauty is one of the most well-loved pantomimes of all time and will captivate and entertain the audience as they follow the magic, pizazz and comedy escapades of this classic and glittering fairy tale.

The show is jam-packed with laughs, action, drama, surprises, live music & songs and plenty of audience participation, all performed by a fantastic star-studded cast and live band.

Andrew Lancel, Coronation Street’s bad boy Frank Foster, stars as Carabose the Wicked Wizard and Master of the Underworld – a despicable character who casts a spell over anyone he dislikes especially those who forget to invite him to their party. Insanely jealous of everyone and obsessed with owning gold, he is mortified when the King and Queen overlook his invitation to the christening of their daughter, Princess Briar Rose. The Wicked Wizard angrily sweeps into the gathering – just before the last of the three Good Fairies is about to bestow her gift on the baby – and casts a spell of death upon the Princess. Only the payment of vast sums of gold each year by the King can prevent the Princess from falling to the fate of the Carabose’s evil spell.

In addition to sensational costumes, the glittering set includes a rotating spinning tower castle plus a 15-foot smoke-breathing dragon. The special effects highlights include a digitally animated projection of a growing forest of thorns which envelops the castle where the inhabitants sleep for 100 years.

Other stars set to appear in the show include actor Jonathon Morris (best known for his role as Adrian Boswell in the sitcom Bread), children’s TV favourite Fifi Forget Me Not plus Liverpool’s open-audition winner Gemma Brodrick starring as Princess Beauty.

Sleeping Beauty will be Fifi’s seventh pantomime appearance – playing the role of the Good Fairy she banishes evil and brings enchantment to the show which kids will love, with the unmistakable voice of Jane Horrocks really bringing the character to life on stage, whilst Radio City Breakfast Show DJ Rossie will be providing the voice-over narration to keep the plot rolling along.

Family fun, pantomime magic and a truly traditional atmosphere all combine to make this one Christmas festival experience you and the family won’t want to miss!!
