Christmas parties for older people

More than 900 older people are set to enjoy Christmas parties this week courtesy of Liverpool City Council.

Money from the Mayoral Neighbourhood Fund – which is made available to ward councillors to benefit local communities – is being used for the events.

The parties are being held at the Devonshire House Hotel on Edge Lane on Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 December from 11:30am – 4pm, with people treated to a three course meal, entertainment from comedian Mickey Finn and the chance to win raffle prizes.

Councillors from across the city have worked with neighbourhood teams and volunteers from Liverpool Mutual Homes to identify and invite pensioners to the events.

Councillor Gerard Woodhouse, Mayoral lead for Older People, said: “We want everyone to have a good time in the run up to the festive season and the parties are aimed at spreading cheer and happiness to people who perhaps don’t get out as often anymore.

“It’s a chance for them to enjoy a free meal, enjoy some great entertainment and make some new friends.”
