The Liverpool City Region’s Combined Authority will host its third meeting on Friday, 19 September at 11am at Mann Island in Liverpool.
Since its formal inception in April 2014, a great deal of progress has been achieved, which will be highlighted at next week’s meeting.
The meeting will include updates on transport, including developments on the high speed rail development plan, economic development as well as governance issues.
The City Region’s long-term rail strategy will be presented, which aims to ensure the rail network meets the needs of the City Region over the next 30 years, as well as supporting the ongoing regeneration of the City Region and maximise its potential contribution to the wider UK economy. This sets out an ambitious strategy with detailed options which now need to be worked up into delivery.
An update will be received on the One North report, which was commissioned by the five Northern Core City Regions to identify the infrastructure that is required to better connect them. It is a long-term piece of work which makes the economic case for improved connectivity, as well as improvements in road and rail.
Governance updates will include members of the Scrutiny Panel, Associated Membership of the City Region’s Combined Authority as well as the role the Combined Authority will play in the devolution of the North.
Since the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority was established, a number of external discussions have been taking place with other Northern Combined Authorities and the Local Government Association with regards to how the Liverpool City Region can collective build the case for greater devolved political and financial powers, share learning and build the case for the North. A timely update on these discussions will be presented on 19 September, hours after the polls close in the Scottish referendum.
