Veolia and Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority are celebrating Recycle Week (12-18 September) with a compost giveaway at Old Swan Recycling Centre.
The giveaway whcih will continue until stocks last, during normal opening times. In exchange for bringing garden waste to be recycled, Liverpool residents will be able to pick up a bag of Pro-Grow soil improver.
The giveaway is part of Recycle Week, a national celebration of recycling and also to raise awareness of the ‘unusual suspects’ that can be recycled from around the home.
Jeff Sears, Director at Veolia, said: “Recycle Week is an ideal time for residents to really take a fresh look at their recycling habits, and to see if there are any opportunities to recycle even more items. There are lots of items that can be recycled but some are lesser known or more ‘unusual’ than others!
“Merseyside residents can use any of the 14 Recycling Centres across the region to recycle household items, including some of the unusual suspects; cooking and engine oils, cartons (TetraPak) and large plastics.”
Carl Beer, Chief Executive of MRWA, said: “These giveaways are always really popular with local residents. Composting is a great way to recycle – instead of going to landfill the material is used again.”
