A consultation has begun on a budget proposal to stop offering a full Council Tax discount to foster carers registered with Liverpool City Council.
The council is facing unprecedented budget pressures which means that it has to find savings of £73M in 2023/2024 and further savings in the two following two years.
Currently, foster carers get either a 100% discount on their bill if they live in Liverpool or, if they live in another local authority area, receive a payment equivalent to their council tax bill.
The scheme costs £480,000 a year and benefits 217 foster carers.
People are being asked to submit their views on the proposal by completing a short online survey at https://liverpool.gov.uk/ctaxfostering.
The consultation is open until 13 February 2023.
A report will be sent to the Budget Council to make a final decision in March 2023, with any change taking effect from April 2023.
