Liverpool’s cruise manager has scooped one of the top titles in the industry.
Angie Redhead has been named the Women’s International Shipping & Trade Association (WISTA) Personality of the Year- fighting off competition from across the UK.
She will now go on to compete for the title against competitors from 32 countries across the globe in the international awards in September.
Angie said: “I’m shocked and delighted!
“I didn’t know anything about it until last week and it was such a strong category I didn’t think for one minute I’d win – and, as they say, I was just pleased to be nominated.
“Working at the Cruise Liner Terminal really is a labour of love, and I thrive on the different challenges we face each day. We have a brilliant team, and this award is definitely for all of them, as I couldn’t do it without them.
“I do hope this win will raise the profile of job opportunities in the sector for women, especially considering the development of Liverpool 2 and the new Port Academy at Hugh Baird college.
“However, I can’t wait to tell everyone I’m ‘Miss Shipping UK’ – but I won’t let it change me though!”
WISTA is an international organisation for women in management positions involved in the maritime transportation business and related trades worldwide. It is a major player in attracting more women to the industry and in supporting women in management positions.
Assistant Mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “This is a well-deserved award – Angie is a hugely popular and influential member of the cruise industry and the work her and the rest of her team has seen Liverpool rise up the ranks as one of the must-visit cruise destinations.
“Angie was part of the team even before we had a cruise liner terminal, and one of her first roles was to oversee its development, construction and operation.
“Since then, Liverpool’s reputation has soared and year on year, we see more cruise lines eager to come to the city, and Angie has played an important role in this.
“There will be some stiff competition in September, but we’ll keep everything crossed and hope for a global win!”
