Diamond celebration for local couples

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Erica Kemp will help two couples celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary later this week.

On Thursday 31 July Mr & Mrs Norman and Mr & Mrs Moorhouse will be welcomed to Liverpool Town Hall to enjoy afternoon tea with the Lord Mayor to celebrate their milestone anniversary.

Councillor Kemp said: “I am delighted to be sharing such a momentous occasion with these wonderful couples.

“Sixty years married is a huge achievement and these couples are an inspiration to our younger generation.

“I hope they enjoy their unique celebration today and I wish them many more years of happiness together.”

The surprise initially came from an email sent to the Lord Mayor by Mr & Mrs Normans daughter, Pamela. She wrote to the Town Hall telling them that she was putting together a book of congratulations for her parents and asked if it would be possible to include a letter from the Lord Mayor.

The Lord Mayor and staff at the Town Hall were only too happy to go one step further and arrange afternoon tea, along with Mr & Mrs Moorhouse who had also submitted a similar request.

Town Hall staff have also arranged for a message of congratulations from Her Majesty the Queen to be delivered to one of the couples on the day.
