Disney Winnie the Pooh Laureate offering creative writing courses

Disney Winnie the Pooh Laureate Jude Lennon has asked former Lord Mayor and her business mentor Councillor Gary Millar to help create interest in her introductory courses about writing for children. These creative writing courses are aimed at people passionate about books or writing, or if they are a lover of children’s literature, or are longing to write their own children’s stories.

Gary says “during my year as Lord Mayor I came across hundreds of fascinating stories and of course our city’s and region’s storytellers are legendary. Through Jude Lennon we now have the opportunity to put pen to paper and pass on these wonderful stories to our children.

“When Jude and her mascot Little Lamb dropped in to my Thursday Business Clinic at Central Library for advice and mentoring we clicked immediately – her Little Lamb Tales and her smartphone and tablet app are fantastic learning tools and her passion for helping children’s and future storytellers are truly inspiring. I wish Jude well with her courses, her stories and her app and I hope you can help support this local business and story teller.”

Jude Lennon award winning children’s writer says “Great childhood books stay with you for life and can be shared time and again. Children’s stories are the best way to explore imagination and creativity (yours and theirs). I love writing for children! Being surrounded by words, books, adventures, journeys and stories is the perfect way to spend time. Many people would love to write for their children or grandchildren but don’t know where to start. Many people already have a story in their heads; they just haven’t put it on paper yet. Many people may wish to find like-minded people to bounce ideas off without having to enrol through a college. This course is an introduction to writing for children and is perfect for anyone who is passionate about children’s books or has an interest in words, literature and writing. If that sounds like you, come and join us!”

Kath Roberts a previous delegate at Courses for Budding Writers, Carnival of Words Festival “It was brilliant! Even more interesting and informative than expected! A wide range of books covered, stimulating discussion and ideas from other members of the group on the important aspects of children’s literature resulting in a useful list. I will keep a notebook handy and keep on writing!”

Background to Jude Lennon and Little Lamb Tales
Jude Lennon was a teacher for nearly 18 years. Of those years, six were spent in Year One, the rest in Early Years. From 2009 – 2014, she was Head of Early Years in both London and Liverpool. Her background is most definitely based in Education and putting the children at the centre of everything. Having left teaching in January 2014, she now operates as a Professional storyteller for schools, festivals, community events and children’s parties. She has also been concentrating on writing more children’s stories and in March 2014 was crowned the Disney Winnie the Pooh Laureate for the North West for her winning story about Winnie the Pooh enjoying a day out in Liverpool.

Jude has written a phonic app. Using her self-penned Little Lamb Tales poems as a starting point, the app encourages children to identify certain sounds within words. Using a mixture of pictures and words it can cater for different abilities. The interactive games ensure the children have fun while learning. The app has been written specifically to marry up with phase 2 of Letters and Sounds (a government document). It can be used by parents and children, just children or schools. It is a great tool to support the teaching of phonics and can be used on mobile or tablet. At Little Lamb Phonics we believe that learning should be f-u-n! There are no data tracking tools or comparing and analysing results. Little Lamb gives children and carers a chance to enjoy learning.

Jude also writes a series of phonic poems called Little Lamb Tales.
