Don't miss your Christmas bin collection day

Don’t miss your Christmas bin collections

Residents in Liverpool are being reminded that a revised bin collection service will be in place over the Christmas and New Year period.

Stickers have already been placed on bins around the city to make people aware of the changes.

The alterations mean that all collections will be moved back by between one and four days. Crews will be working across three Saturdays in the post-Christmas period to ensure that all waste is collected at the earliest possible opportunity.

Households who receive food waste collections should continue to present their caddy alongside their purple and blue bins.

Changes will take place from Christmas Day, with normal service resuming on Monday, 19 January 2026.

People can check their next collection dates by entering their postcode online at www.liverpool.gov.uk/bins. Alternatively, find the complete list of changes below.

The Council is also encouraging all residents to recycle over the festive period by placing dry recyclables loose in their blue bin.

This includes plastic bottles, glass jars and bottles, paper, and crushed cardboard. Food waste should not be thrown into the blue bin and bottles or jars should be rinsed before being binned.

Visit www.recycleright.org.uk to check whether specific items can be recycled.

Anyone with excess waste can take it to one of the city’s household waste recycling centres. The centres in Otterspool and Old Swan are open from 8am to 5pm on all days except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

People can find their closest centre on the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority website.

Green bin collections for garden waste have been suspended over the winter period and will restart at the end of February 2026.
