Drawing on giant inspiration

A local designer has been selected to design the official print merchandise for Liverpool’s giant event.

Freida McKitrick, who was born in Litherland and works in the city centre, has been chosen by the team behind Memories of August 1914, to design the official prints and cards for the event.

The beautiful images show the Little Girl Giant and her pet Xolo outside St George’s Hall.

Freida said: “I feel privileged and delighted to have been chosen as the official artist for the event.

“Sea Odyssey was a joy to see on our streets, and proved to be hugely inspirational for me as an artist.

“I was delighted to be approached by Culture Liverpool who had seen my work, and wanted me to be part of this year’s spectacular. I was also pleased to hear that Royal de Luxe liked my work as they are very particular about pictures of their family of giants.

“I hope everyone enjoys the event and will take a piece home of my work as a special memento.”

The merchandise can be bought from the Tourist Information Centres located at the Albert Dock and Lime Street Station, as well as the heritage centre in St George’s Hall. They can also be purchased via www.giantspectacular.com/ or at the official merchandise pop up shops that will be in the city during the event which runs from 23-27 July. Please note, the merchandise will not be available to purchase in person or online until Friday 18 July.

Cards cost £2.50, the small prints are just £5 and the larger ones are £15.

Executive Producer from Royal de Luxe, Gwen Raux, said: “The image and portrayal of our giants is very important to us and we always want anything produced to be in-keeping with how we want these special characters to be depicted.

“When we saw Freida’s designs we thought they were beautiful and complemented the event perfectly. They capture the magic of the event and will be a great way for people to be able to take a bit of that magic away with them.”

As well as Freida’s products, there will be a selection of other merchandise available including t-shirts, a limited edition silk screen, a jigsaw puzzle and a magnetic dress-up set.
