Edge Lane outbound carriageway to remain closed until early August

The section of Edge Lane closed after a hole opened up last week will remain shut until early August.

United Utilities which is repairing a collapsed sewer 8 metres underground, confirmed the timescales after uncovering the scale of the damage.

Mike Wood from United Utilities said: “It’s a complex repair, but our hope is we can complete the required work over the next few weeks, and by early August have the road back open as normal.”

“We’re working 24/7 on this, with double shift patterns and we do thank people for their patience during this time.”

“Ensuring we don’t cause any further disruption to other utility pipes running within our working area is a priority. For example we have a water pipe which serves a large parts of the local community which we need to work around carefully.”

The inbound side of Edge Lane remains open for commuters heading into Liverpool. A fully signposted diversion is in place to direct traffic around the closed section of Edge Lane heading out of the city.
