Emergency work is taking place on Islington in Liverpool to repair a broken gas pipe.
National Grid Gas is carrying out the repair on the in-bound side of the carriageway around Clifford Street which means the closure of the inside lane.
They have agreed that once the pipe is repaired – which is expected to be over the weekend – the contractor which carried out the recent improvements to Islington, King Construction, will do the tarmac work.
A council spokesman said: “Digging up the road is unavoidable because the pipe needs repairing, but we want to make sure that the repair of the highway is to the same standard as the rest of the road rather than just patched up.”
