Pupils who have never had a day off during either primary or secondary school have been presented with a special award for exceptional attendance at Liverpool Town Hall.
A total of 32 pupils from 20 schools across Liverpool were at the Attendance Awards on Wednesday 2 November.
Organised by the Liverpool Families Programme, Liverpool Learning Partnership and School Improvement Liverpool, the aim is to celebrate their dedication and commitment.
Councillor Nick Small, Assistant Mayor and Cabinet member for education, said: “All the evidence that we have is that the better attendance that a pupil has, the better their chances of getting good exam results and going on to have a successful career.
“We’ve been working hard with our schools to get the message across to parents that every lesson counts for their children and we want to make sure we reward those with exceptional levels of attendance.
“We recognise that there will always be legitimate reasons for pupils to have time off school, such as illness or hospital appointments. However the students and families we are highlighting have clearly gone above and beyond to make sure they are in for every lesson.
“Over the last year, we have seen an improvement in attendance across the city thanks not just to the hard work of pupils, parents and teachers but also organisations such as Liverpool Learning Partnership and School Improvement Liverpool in sharing best practice and working hard to spread the message about the importance of being in school.”
The schools involved in the Attendance Awards were:
Secondary – Cardinal Heenan, Calderstones, Archbishop Blanch, Gateacre, Holly Lodge, Broadgreen, Alsop, Archbishop Beck, Notre Dame, Childwall, Belvedere, SFX, Bellerive and St John Bosco
Primary – Emmaus, Pinehurst, Stockton Wood, Beacon, Northcote and St Cleopas
