Festival in memory of Joseph

A community event in memory of murdered teenager Joseph Lappin is to be held in Old Swan.

Army cadet Joseph was the victim of a knife attack in October 2008. His family are keen to raise awareness of gun and knife crime and the effects it has on all concerned.

The Joseph Lappin Foundation has been established by Joseph’s mum Toni, to raise funds to help young people

This year’s festival, to raise funds for the Foundation is the fifth to take place and will be held at Doric Park(pictured) on Sunday 2 June (12-5pm)

Joseph’s mother, Toni, said: “This is the fifth festival held in memory of Joseph, and each year the event has gone from strength to strength. There will be something for everyone, whatever your age and I’m sure we’ll have a fantastic day.”

The new Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Gary Millar will open the festival. He said: “I fully support Joseph’s family in their determination that young people will be able to fulfil their potential and I know that the Joseph Lappin Foundation will help them do that.

“The festival which has been supported by local businesses, plus Merseytravel, Brouhaha, Merseyside Police, the Fire and Rescue Service, Liverpool Mutual Homes, Everton and Football Clubs, local councillors and the City Council, will not only raise funds for such a worthwhile cause but bring our communities together.”

It will feature live entertainment, a Rodeo Bull, coaching and footballs skills with Everton in the Community , dance troupes, artistes, massage, beauty therapies, face painting, climbing wall, health awareness stalls and food stalls.

There will also be a raffle with over 60 prizes all donated free by businesses.

Most of the participants are donating their time and services in order to raise money for the Foundation.
