Dozens of looked-after young people from Liverpool and their carers will be having a picnic with the Giants on Friday 5 October – on specially created blankets adorned with their hopes and aspirations for the future.
Around 50 foster children have designed the creations to tie in with the theme of this year’s Giant Spectacular event – Liverpool’s Dream.
They will take them to Princes Park and picnic on them when the Little Boy Giant and his dog Xolo are having a siesta at Princes Park during the afternoon.
Councillor Barry Kushner, Cabinet member for Children’s Services, said: “The Giant Spectacular is a really magical occasion for the whole family and we wanted to make sure that our looked-after children got an opportunity to be part of the event, along with their carers.
“It is really important to us that they don’t miss out on cultural opportunities like this and I am impressed that they have used their imaginations to dream big about their hopes and wishes for the future. The experience of seeing the Giants will be something that will live with them for the rest of their lives.
“This is part of our commitment to support foster carers and young people, which also includes free council tax and Lifestyles fitness centre passes for Liverpool City Council foster families.”
