Freya and Jayne ‘Race for a Reason’ in aid of Alfie’s Squad

Two staff from Liverpool City Council’s Public Health Team are taking on Alfie’s Squad’s ‘Race for a Reason’ to support children and young people who have lost a loved one to suicide.

From 14 – 16 November, Jayne Cook and Freya Kendrick will be racing from Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium to Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge ground, but with a twist!

Along the way they’ll face secret checkpoints and challenges.

Jayne and Freya said: “It’s going to be a fun weekend using public transport, our imagination and possibly a couple of favours to get us to the finish line!

“Along the way we will be relying on public transport and potentially a few lifts if we are lucky with a limited budget. If you think you could help them us out a bit, perhaps someone has a connection with Network Rail or Arriva/Stagecoach and would like to lend us a favour by getting us a pass for the day!”

Alfie’s Squad was created by Alfie, who lost his dad to suicide when he was just 8 years old. With no support available for him, he decided to build something that would help others in the same situation.

Launched in 2023, Alfie’s Squad is the only charity in the UK that provides face to face peer support for children and young people (aged 6-17), and their families who are bereaved by suicide. Every week, up to 50 young members take part in fun and engaging activities, giving them the chance to build confidence and friendships.

Your donation will help Alfie’s Squad continue to be there for these young members and reach even more families when they need it the most. Follow @alfiessquad on Instagram, as you might be called on to help them reach the finish line!
