Bulky Bob's furniture give away

Furniture Free for All in Stanley Park

Scores of families across North Liverpool are enjoying free furniture thanks to a joint initiative between Bulky Bob’s, Your Housing Group and Liverpool City Council.

Bulky Bob’s gave away 197 furniture items to 91 families this week and made 58 free deliveries to addresses in L4, L5, L6, L9 and L10. The total furniture received weighed in at a whopping 5,700kg.

This was the fourth annual Free for All, held at the Isla Gladstone, Stanley Park and organized by Bulky Bob’s and Your Housing Group.

Families could pick up to three free items of furniture, all provided by Bulky Bob’s. The items were then delivered for free by the Bulky Bob’s team later that same day.

One woman who attended the Free for All said: “I’ve just moved into a new place with my two little ones. The house was totally unfurnished and my living room just looked empty. I had no idea how I was going to furnish my place, and then I heard about the Free for All. Now I’ve got a great dining table – and matching chairs! It’s great.”

Representatives from Riverside, Regenda, Plus Dane, Liverpool Housing Trust and Liverpool City Council also attended and were on hand to provide information and support on welfare, housing and health issues.

Eddy Weston, Customer First Coordinator at Your Housing Group said: “The Free for All is always a great day. It’s brilliant to see so many residents and people from the local area getting things that they really need – and getting support and in formation that they might not otherwise come across.”

The Free for All was so popular that all items were snapped up within an hour, but Bulky Bob’s also took 38 crisis referrals – which ensured that 91 additional items will also be given away for free Bulky Bob’s Furniture World on London Road for those in need.

Mick Hart, Bulky Bob’s manager, said: “We’re delighted that so many items went to a good home. The furniture Free for All is a lifeline for families who would otherwise really struggle to find furniture for their homes. It’s a great feeling for all of us to know that parents and their children in North Liverpool will now be sitting on a comfy preloved couch or around a dinner table for the first time.”

Bulky Bob’s gets its preloved furniture through its contract with Liverpool City Council, collecting bulky household waste for free from homes across the city. The furniture is then sold at low prices at Bulky Bob’s Furniture World on London Road, or given away at events like the Free for All.
