Gale warning

The Met Office have issued  a Red  severe weather warning for high winds.

The warning will be in place for Merseyside from 1.30pm until 9pm on Wednesday 12 February.

Winds are expected of up to 80 mph in exposed locations.  Winds of this strength can cause structural damage and bring down trees and power lines resulting in the loss of electricity supplies.  Large waves may also affect the coast.

Further information can be found on the Met office web site:

Everton FC’s game against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park has now been called off due to the weather.

The city council has been working with partners to try and ensure public safety during the high winds and offers the following advice:

  • Where possible avoid going into parks  and coastal areas
  • Avoid parking or walking under trees
