The Reader Organisation will welcome Shakespeare’s Globe back to Calderstones Mansion House for their prestigious new touring production of Much Ado About Nothing. Following last year’s critically acclaimed sell out production of King Lear and the re-establishing of the Garden Theatre as a venue, the Globe are returning with one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies and sharpest pair of lovers Beatrice and Benedick this June.
The Reader Organisation work to build a sense of community and bring people together through literature, so last year’s reopening of the theatre was a fantastic opportunity to do just that and this year with a higher capacity, more performances and improved facilities this promises to be one of the theatre events of summer.
Founder and Director of The Reader Organisation, Dr Jane Davis MBE, says:
“We’re thrilled to welcome back the The Globe with their brand new production of Much Ado About Nothing. This play is a real crowd pleaser, and we can’t wait to see the garden come to life once again. Following lots of change at Calderstones Mansion House this year, including the recent opening of The Reader café and gallery, this is a fantastic way to bring people together and to begin the summer – fingers crossed for sunshine!”
After opening at the Margate Theatre Royal the European tour is now in full swing and will visit Calderstones Mansion House from June 12th to June 14th, with evening performances each night, and two matinee performances on June 13th and 14th.
Councillor Wendy Simon, Assistant Mayor and cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: “It’s great news that the Globe Theatre are returning to the city. We went through a very careful process to find the right partner to bring the Mansion House back into use and such exciting initiatives as this shows that the choice of the Reader Organisation was fully justified. They are not only ensuring we have top class productions but helping to bring the community together.”
