Grand’mère meets Grandma

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Erica Kemp will meet up with another giant matriarch this week.

On Thursday 24 July Councillor Kemp will visit St Georges Hall to have a peek at the sleeping French Grand’mere who is visiting the city as part of this year’s ‘Memories of August 1914’ event.

Along with the Lord Mayor, Junior and Young Lord Mayor, staff, patients and carers from Alder Hey will also be getting a first look at the magical old lady before she wakes from her sleep.

Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Kemp said: “I am absolutely delighted to be meeting another grandma and such a special one too, it’s just a shame she will be sleeping and we can’t share our stories, although I am sure we will hear some fantastic tales from her over the coming weekend.

“To be Lord Mayor in such a momentous year is an absolute honour and I am sure the rest of the city, visitors and residents alike are in for a massive treat.

“Seeing staff and patients from Alder Hey here today makes this event more poignant for me personally as my grandson was incredibly ill when he was first born. We were very fortunate to have such a fantastic team who nursed him back to good health.

“I hope they, and the rest of the city, whether with families, friends or visitors enjoy this giant weekend, it’s going to be spectacular.”

The Lord Mayor will also be joined by her grandson.
