Liverpool has played host to nearly 2,000 gymnast’s over the weekend as the British Ministrada Festival was held at Lifestyles Everton Park attracting a sell-out crowd from across the UK with every level of ability from novice to international represented.
Of the 31 clubs taking part the city was proudly represented by Everton Park Gymnastics Club and HPL Gymnastics whose junior team won the coveted ‘Best Use of Costume’ award. The overall winner was Allstarz from South London who performed a stunning and emotive routine.
This discipline combines the power and precision of gymnastics with the drama and artistry of the theatre. Most people would be familiar with Britain’s Got Talent Winners Infinity – probably its most famous exponent.
The awards were presented by Councillor Wendy Simon Cabinet Member Culture & Tourism and Ceri Sass – Club Development Co-ordinator for British Gymnastics.
Councillor Simon said: “The performances are not only visually striking but clearly technically excellent. The whole Festival had a carnival-like atmosphere, yet still retained the message and pathways of developing and providing opportunity for all to participate in sport.”
The city itself has played a crucial role in the success of the weekend with 80% of the participants based in its hotels.
