Hanover Street closed from 1st March

Hanover Street in Liverpool city centre will be closed for eight weeks from Sunday 1st March 2015 for essential gas main replacement works.

This project will see the Victorian cast-iron gas mains replaced with plastic mains to resolve a number of historic leaks on the main, and an ongoing leak at the junction with Seel Street. The aim of the project is to replace all cast-iron gas mains between Bold Street and Duke Street.

It is not possible to undertake the works in one phase due to the impact on gas supply to the Liverpool One, Albert Dock and Echo Arena areas and the project is being split into two phases:

Phase One: From Bold Street to Gradwell Street – Sunday 1st March until Sunday 26th April 2015 (approximately eight weeks duration).
Phase Two: From Gradwell Street to Duke Street – September 2015 (approximately five weeks – dates TBC)

Hanover Street will be closed to through traffic during these works with access maintained along the closed section for businesses in the Liverpool One and Ropewalks area, where no other legitimate routes are available.

Merseytravel have liaised with bus operators to divert buses around the closure utilising Liverpool One, Great Charlotte Street and Queen Square Bus Station for the majority of the diverted services. More information can be found here
