Hanover Street to close for gas repairs

Hanover Street in Liverpool city centre will be closed for six weeks from Sunday 13 September for the second and final phase of essential gas main replacement works.

Victorian cast-iron gas mains are being replaced with plastic mains to resolve a number of historic leaks.

The first phase of work was completed in April but the project had to be split in two due to the impact on the gas supply to the Liverpool One, Albert Dock and Echo Arena areas.

The work will be carried out from Gradwell Street to Duke Street, with Hanover Street closed to through traffic during these works with access maintained along the closed section for businesses in the Liverpool One and Ropewalks area, where no other legitimate routes are available.

Merseytravel have liaised with bus operators to divert buses around the closure utilising Liverpool One, Great Charlotte Street and Queen Square Bus Station for the majority of the diverted services. More information can be found here

The work will be completed by 6 November.
