Hollyoaks actress Nicole Barber Lane has been announced as an ambassador for this summer’s spectacular triathlon event, Tri Liverpool, and is appealing for team members to join her in the relay section of the event.
Nicole, who plays Myra McQueen on the popular Channel 4 soap is currently enjoying a break in filming and will take on the bike section of the relay event at Tri Liverpool on Sunday July 26.
Speaking about the event, Nicole said:
“Last year I suffered from a prolonged back injury which stopped me running and forced me to take time to recover. I’ve since taken up cycling and now feel ready to get my health back on track with a new active challenge. Tri Liverpool will be my goal to work towards this summer, keeping me fit, it will be lots of fun and I’m looking forward to enjoying the day.
“I am on the hunt for two other team members to join me and take on the swim and the run, completing the event as a relay team. I love the idea of entering with others as it means I won’t want to let my team members down and I know it will spur me on.”
Nicole will join thousands of entrants including elite athletes looking to take British Triathlon Championship titles, triathlon enthusiasts competing in age categories, and complete beginners who have signed up for their first triathlon event.
British Triathlon’s Director for Major and National Events, Jon Ridgeon, said:
“Nicole Barber Lane is the perfect example of many of our entrants to this year’s must-do triathlon event. We are actively encouraging beginners to get involved and use Tri Liverpool as a summer health and fitness goal. Due to the nature of triathlon, training the body using three different sports is a really effective way to get fit and have fun”.
Tri Liverpool is delivered by British Triathlon in partnership with Liverpool City Council.
Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Events, Councillor Wendy Simon, said:
“British Triathlon has worked closely with Liverpool City Council to ensure that Liverpool residents are race ready ahead of Tri Liverpool. Not only is the spectacular event a must-watch for the City, it is also a challenge for local people to work towards and improve their health in the process. Special GO TRI triathlon training sessions are free to council-run Lifestyles centre members and free open water swimming sessions allow potential entrants to experience all elements of triathlon ahead of race day.”
Beginners looking to take on Tri Liverpool can enter the beginner section which will see entrants challenge themselves to a 400m open water swim, 10km bike ride and 2.5k run. Alternatively, the corporate relay section invites people to join forces with colleagues or friends and compete as a team. Training is essential and official GO TRI triathlon training sessions are held at Lifestyles centres in Wavertee, Garston, Alsop and Ellergreen. A special open water swimming session, led by Liverpool triathlon club Mersey Tri, will take place on June 24 at Liverpool Watersports Centre, Queens Dock.
“Liverpool is a beautiful city and the events we have here are always exciting, lively and energetic. I’m really pleased to be able to set a challenge that is on my doorstep and I encourage everyone like me, looking to get fit, to get involved.” added Nicole Barber Lane.
Nicole last featured on Channel 4’s popular soap Hollyoaks in January 2015 with her character Myra McQueen making a brief return to the soap from her new life in Alicante, where she had fled after faking her own death.
Speaking about her potential return to the soap, Nicole said:
“I’ve no firm date to return to Hollyoaks as yet, but who knows, maybe Myra McQueen will arrive from Alicante a fully fledged triathlete? You may just see her cycling through Hollyoaks village on her return.”
Swimmers and runners looking to form a team with Nicole can register their interest by emailing British Triathlon through Moore Media at gemma@jaynemooremedia.com
