The city of Liverpool, Mayor Joe Anderson and the Chamber of Commerce also supported the bid.
Mayor Anderson said: “It’s a real coup for Liverpool to be the host city for this prestigious event which will see the world’s best Taekwondo athletes battle it out in what is guaranteed to be a thrilling competition.
“We’re no strangers to successfully staging high-profile sporting events and we look forward to giving the competitors from across Europe a very warm Liverpool welcome.”
This prestigious event will be a springboard for developing Taekwondo in Liverpool, particularly among local schools. It is anticipated that these championships will leave a lasting Taekwondo legacy for the city.
