Jonathan Jones appointed Director of Education and Skills

Jonathan Jones has been appointed to the newly created role of Director of Education and Skills, as part of the changes to strengthen our senior leadership team…

Previously, Jonathan worked in a combined role of Chief Education Officer and Director of School Improvement Liverpool (SIL).

As well as being responsible for the statutory duties around education, vulnerable children and young people – including those with special educational needs – he will also be responsible for leading the council’s Employment and Skills service – comprising the Adult Learning Service and Liverpool in Work.

He’ll be tasked with building stronger partnerships across the education, skills and business sectors, to increase people’s skills, improve their life chances and drive up employment opportunities – tapping into the aims of our City Plan.

Jonathan said: “I’m very privileged to be taking on this new role. I am looking forward to working with our stakeholders in order to ensure that the excellent work in the city continues and that we provide the best possible education and opportunities for our children and young people.

My work will be focused on securing better outcomes for our children and young people, when it comes to their educational experiences and skills for life. I am excited by the challenge that lies ahead.”

About Jonathan

Jonathan joined Liverpool City Council and SIL in February 2019. He has previously held the position of Her Majesty’s Inspector with Ofsted and specialist adviser on education policy, including SEND.
