LFC fan has heart of gold

A Liverpool FC super-fan has sold their tickets to the UEFA Champions League final in Kiev and has used the money for a life-saving piece of equipment.

Saturday sees Liverpool FC face Real Madrid to become the champions of Europe, with unwanted tickets changing hands for thousands of pounds.

The Granby Care Hub in Toxteth wanted to purchase a defibrillator and were planning a series of fundraising activities in order to purchase it – until the generous mystery donor stepped in to pay for it.

The local resident – who doesn’t wish to be identified – decided to sell their coveted tickets and donate the proceeds to the Hub, which helps people back on their feet after a period in hospital.

Julie Arrowsmith, Team Organiser at Granby Care Hub, said: “We’re absolutely blown away by this incredibly kind and generous gesture from a member of our community. We’ve been trying to raise money for a defibrillator for a while now but this donation means we can now buy it and potentially save lives.

“The whole team here at Granby would like to thank the individual who has enabled us to purchase this defibrillator. We know how important football is to people in this city, we’re overwhelmed that somebody would give up their Champions League final tickets and donate the money in this way.”
