The hugely popular ‘Light up an Angel’ returns this Christmas to Liverpool Cathedral.
Following on from the success of last year which saw more than 100 angel decorations lit up on the Cathedral Christmas tree a star design is also available, new for 2014.
Visitors can have a name or message inscribed onto their glass decoration, which will be placed on a lighted tree in the Cathedral throughout the Christmas period. They will receive a certificate and can take their decoration home to keep in the New Year.
In return they are asked to give a gift of £30 for an Angel of £50 for a Start to the Cathedral Foundation, which helps keep the Cathedral free to visitors, funds choral music at Christmas and throughout the year and goes towards the upkeep of the building.
Betty Martin, 81, from Wavertree visited the Cathedral with her great granddaughter Tilly, age 2. Tilly was thrilled to see all the Angels and the stars twinkling on the tree outside the Welsford restaurant.
Betty thought it was a wonderfully unusual Christmas present idea. Tilly’s angel was engraved with the words “To Tilly lots of love from Nanny Betty xxxx”
Betty said “I thought it would be a really nice keepsake for years to come and I am helping the Cathedral raise money at the same time. We are going to collect the angels each year.
The photo we have of the two of us by the tree is fabulous we are going to turn the photo into our special Christmas cards this year.”
Tina Morris, Cathedral Fundraising Manager, said: “We were overwhelmed last Christmas by the amount of heartfelt good wishes that appeared on the Angels. Visitors bought them for mums, dads, nans and granddads, children, grandchildren, soldiers, not to mention loved ones who were no longer with us.
“Every time a visitor donates to the Angel appeal we can take another bucket away when it rains. Please order as soon as possible, as we only have a limited number of Stars and Angels available.”
