Liverpool International Music Festival will be adding LIMF Radio to its already outstanding 2016 festival programme.
Broadcasting locally on 87.7FM, as well as online via www.LIMFradio.co.uk, the station will be used to reflect the past and present Liverpool music scene as well as featuring artists and bands who will be taking part in July’s highly anticipated event. The radio station will also be an invaluable platform for the region’s new music, presenters and DJs, once again highlighting the festival’s commitment to new talent and strengthening the local scene and industry on a global scale.
LIMF Radio will also provide training for 35 local young people who want to enter the industry. Sessions will be led by BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts, former founding manager of BBC 1Xtra, Ray Paul and Laura Lukanz who is the former music manager of BBC 1Xtra and EVP of First Access Entertainment. Station Manager duties fall under the responsibility of 24 year old Liam Broughton, an up and coming talent in Liverpool’s music scene who has already successfully managed a local radio station for Everton and Black History Month.

LIMF Radio has lots more to announce ahead of its launch on 2nd July.
LIMF Music Curator Yaw Owusu says this of the project, “Naturally we are always trying to find interesting ways to develop new talent and create platforms to showcase both established and emerging music and music creators. The LIMF Radio project is another way we are able to do this as we present a platform that will not just share all the good and the great of what’s happening at LIMF but will also reflect some of the great new sounds and musical movements happening in Liverpool right now!”
The project will provide industry standard training to the team of volunteers that will be working on the station – this allows those involved to understand how, why and what makes great radio, and will also give a firm skills footing on the media ladder.
The volunteers will be in safe hands with some of the best in the business being selected as mentors, for example few can claim to have had as much experience in radio as former BBC Executive Ray Paul. His 27 years experience has seen him win six Sony Music awards from sports to music and documentaries, and also head up the weekend programming at Radio 1. He will be joined by Laura Lukanz – former music manager of BBC Radio 1Xtra and now EVP of First Access Entertainment who look after the likes of Iggy Azealia, Ellie Goulding and Zayn Malik. Completing the trio is local hero and BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts, who has her own show from 4:30-6:30 am and has interviewed some of the biggest stars in the business, from 50 Cent to Tinie Tempah.
Ray Paul, former BBC Radio Executive comments, “LIMF Radio aims to provide an invaluable platform for the musical grassroots of the city – from bands who may be getting their first exposure on air, to reflecting the wide range of musical styles that live and make Liverpool what it is. The training that will be provided to the team working on the station will be to an industry standard – this allows them the understanding of how, why and what makes great radio, and gives them a firm skills footing on the media ladder.”
Adele Roberts, BBC Radio 1 Presenter comments, “Liverpool is an incredible music city and as a proud Merseysider it’s a great pleasure to help the young broadcasters realise their ambitions in creating their first ever LIMF radio station!”
Station Manager Liam Broughton comments, “It’s a great honour to be invited to station manage the first ever LIMF Radio. With so much incredible talent within the city, we have a lot to celebrate. We want to provide the ultimate platform for these talents whilst being an entertaining outlet for people to listen in to in the lead up to LIMF – the leading festival in our amazing city.”
LIMF Media Partners Radio City, the No.1 commercial radio station for Liverpool, will be supporting LIMF Radio.
