This week has seen the launch of the Liverpool Foster Care Association (LFCA) – a new initiative led by foster carers, for foster carers.
Supported by Liverpool City Council, this milestone marks a significant step forward in strengthening the fostering community across the city and ensuring foster carers receive the support they need to provide the best possible care for children.
The LFCA has been set up to offer a dedicated network for foster carers that will provide peer support, advocacy, and opportunities to share experiences, knowledge and advice.
Liverpool City Council has committed to working closely with the LFCA as set out in a service level agreement with quarterly meetings. Social workers and other professionals will work with the LFCA to develop a support system that prioritises foster carers’ and children’s wellbeing.
The launch was held at Anfield, made possible with the support of the LFC Foundation, which also included an aerial gymnastics display to music by Brad Kella, who grew up in foster care. The launch was also supported by to The Lodge Wellness Centre, Costco and Home and Bargains.
Cllr Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services, said: “I know how important it is for foster carers to feel supported as part of a community. The development of Liverpool’s Foster Care Association is a great opportunity for foster carers to not only have a shared voice but also to build their networks, share experiences and advice and provide an extra layer of support from those who truly understand the challenges and rewards of fostering.”
Peter, who has fostered with Liverpool for 18 years and is also chair of the Liverpool Foster Care Association, said: “This is more than just an association—it’s the start of us coming together as foster carers to help shape the future of fostering in Liverpool. By working together, we are strengthening our fostering community, supporting each other and making sure that every child in care has the best possible start in life.”
