The popular recycling centre at Otterspool on Jericho Lane in Liverpool is closing for two weeks from Saturday 2nd September 2017 until Monday 16th September 2017 for essential maintenance.
The site which celebrates its 33rd birthday this year, is one of 14 Centres across Merseyside provided for residents to recycle and dispose of their waste by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority.
The closure of the site will mean that residents should use the site their next nearest or most convenient Centre – and can use any of the other 13 Recycling Centres across Merseyside. For many residents living in Liverpool, the next nearest site will be the newly developed Old Swan Centre on Cheadle Avenue off Green Lane in L13.
Cllr Graham Morgan, MRWA Chairperson said: “Keeping all of our sites safe and sound is very important to us and in order to do that it’s sometimes necessary to temporarily close the site to the public. In its 33rd year, the Otterspool site needs some TLC and so we’re taking this opportunity to thoroughly check all aspects of the site, undertake any repairs, repaint, review layout and signage and ensure that the site adheres to the high standard required of a public facility. We’d encourage resident to use our new site on Cheadle Avenue in Old Swan while we’re closed.”
Carl Beer, MRWA Chief Executive said: “Our Otterspool Centre is one of the most popular sites in our network. We taking this opportunity to refresh the site given the amount of wear and tear it experiences every week.”
Improvements to the site will include: repair and replacing containers, repairing lighting and installing new electrical access, replacement and painting of handrails, complete clean of the Centre, replacement of kerbstones, repair and replacement of signage and improvements to road marking and ‘safe’ routes around the site.
Residents using the Otterspool Centre over the next few weeks will be able to see the closure information on banners at the site and can get an information leaflet which details all of the nearest sites for them to use during the temporary closure. All the information can also be found on the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority website www.merseysidewda.gov.uk or by calling Tel: 0151 255 1444.
