Liverpool welcomes Gay Wedding Show

Liverpool City Council has welcomed news that the city will host the first National Gay Wedding Show.

Around 200 exhibitors from across the UK will descend on Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre on 3rd March 2013, providing a wide range of products and services across the whole wedding market.

The National Gay Wedding Show is a celebration of marriage for all couples regardless of their sexuality. It was set up to support equality throughout the wedding market, creating an experience for anyone whatsoever who is getting married, whether they are Straight, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender (LBGT).

The show sets out to be the most accessible and informative event of its kind, offering every style of couple a high profile event, promoting equality and acceptance within the wedding industry. The National Gay Wedding Show has also created its own equality campaign, ‘the Celebration of Weddings’, embracing people who want to cement their commitment to each other.

The wedding industry is worth over £52 million per year. Under amendments made to The Marriages and Civil Partnerships Regulations in 2011, allowing same sex couples to register for a civil partnership, 53,417 ceremonies have been conducted, a number that still continues to rise.

The National Gay Wedding Show will provide extensive shopping, support and advice opportunities for couples preparing to tie the knot or those who just want to see what is on offer should they decide to get married. Visitors will be able to benefit from invaluable support and advice from all wedding categories including; venues, cakes, stationery, entertainers, wedding attire to name a few; The show will feature many major brands such as The Hilton, Slaters and KUONI, as well as many unique independent companies showcasing their services and products.

Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member Councillor Nick Small, said: “I’m delighted the UK’s first ever National Gay Wedding Show is taking place in Liverpool. We embrace diversity, and earlier this year we endorsed the Stanley Street Quarter as a gay village, recognising the vital contributions the LGBT community makes to life in our city.

“Our award winning arena and convention centre is attracting some of the biggest and best new events to our waterfront and this will be the latest high profile success for the venue.”

BT Convention Centre Liverpool has also announced that it will host The UK Baby and Toddler Show on 2nd and 3rd February 2013. Around 200 local, regional and national exhibitors will be providing a wide range of products and services across the whole baby and toddler market at the event; which is the first show of its kind in the North West of England.
