Lord Mayor backs recruitment drive

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor Councillor Gary Millar is backing a campaign to encourage young people to join the Irish Guards.

Serving personnel together with the 16th Regimental Mascot to 1st Battalion, Domhnall of Shantamon, a one year old Irish Wolfhound, will be welcomed to the Town Hall before hitting the streets to encourage young people to sign up.

Lord Mayor said: “I am delighted to be welcoming representatives from the Irish Guards to the Town Hall to highlight their latest recruitment drive.

“Liverpool has long and historic links with all Military and in particular the Irish Guards, recruiting 40 percent of soldiers from the Liverpool area over the years.

“I hope to encourage some of our young people to come along to one of the recruitment vehicles in Paradise Street or St Chads Parade in Kirby and find out more about the Irish Guards.”

A recruitment bus will be in Paradise Street Monday and Wednesday and on Tuesday it will be at St Chads Parade, Kirkby from 10 am – 4 pm.

The Irish Guards were awarded the Freedom of the City in 2000.
